The Customs Department has proposed exemptions on a long list of consumer goods including poultry, fish, milk, vegetables and various types of sugar when the Sales and Service Tax is reintroduced.
Other items in its 292-page exemption list range from bicycles to carriages for disabled persons and various types of orthopaedic appliances.
The reintroduced SST will kick in on Sept 1 to replace the Goods and Services Tax (GST), which will be scrapped.
Exempted goods will not be subject to the proposed 5% to 10% sales tax under the SST.
Here are the 28 items and services that you might be interested which are exempted from SST (Proposed):
- Dairy Products
- Chilli/tomato sauce
- Motorcycles (below 250cc)
- Construction materials (sand, bricks & cement)
- Medical Consultation
- Ambulance services
- Sanitary towels/pads
- Electrical Energy
- Carpets/Prayer rugs
- Spectacles frame
